Wells Fargo has introduced its Transgender Persons Hiring Programme in India to enhance job skills and professional growth for transgender individuals. This programme follows a successful pilot in 2022, where 13 individuals were hired in technology roles. In 2024, the company aims to expand this initiative across various business areas.

The company provides a structured learning process and a well-organised employee experience to support new hires effectively. Furthermore, the network encourages practices such as reverse mentoring, where employees can mentor senior leaders. This also allows for a better understanding of LGBTQ issues and fostering a culture of empathy and support. Currently, 30 transgender individuals are sponsored by Wells Fargo to improve their employment opportunities and create a strong talent pipeline.

The Pride Connection ERN emphasises visible allyship, encouraging both employees and leadership to openly support LGBTQ colleagues. The network engages senior leaders, ensuring they are involved in championing inclusivity throughout the organisation.

Regular check-ins and connections with allies and employee resource networks help new hires integrate smoothly into the workplace. Wells Fargo also offers sensitisation and awareness sessions with community partners such as PeriFerry. These sessions, tailored for hiring managers, mentors, and support teams, aim to improve understanding of transgender experiences and workplace culture.

The company’s Pride Connection Employee Resource Network (ERN) supports LGBTQ employees, customers and allies. This network facilitates reverse mentoring, encourages visible allyship, and involves senior leaders in promoting inclusivity. It organises events such as floor huddles, conferences and training sessions to foster daily inclusivity in the workplace.

Speaking on the initiative, Uday Odedra, executive vice president and region head of Wells Fargo India & Philippines, said, “Investing in diverse communities to upskill and unlock potential and, at the same time, setup the right environment for success is a critical area of focus for Wells Fargo. We look to be the employer of choice for inclusivity, and are proud of our partnership with PeriFerry and support for the transgender community.”

Additionally, Sneha Suresh, executive director, and diversity, equity and inclusion leader, Wells Fargo India & Philippines, also emphasised, “By offering meaningful employment and professional opportunities to transgender individuals, we are not only enhancing our workforce diversity but also driving a culture of inclusion that everyone can thrive in.”
