As India’s biggest shopping festival, The Big Billion Days (TBBD), draws closer, Flipkart has unveiled its festive preparedness strategy. The e-commerce firm is banking on an expanded workforce, stronger supply chain, and technology-driven operations to meet the surge in demand.
This year, the company has created over 2.2 lakh seasonal roles across supply chain, logistics and delivery. The positions include pickers, packers, sorters, and last-mile executives. Around 15 per cent of the recruits are entering the workforce for the first time, marking a step towards broader employment creation.
Flipkart has also sharpened its focus on inclusivity. Hiring of women has increased by 10 per cent, while persons with disabilities and members of the LGBTQIA+ community have been integrated into various operational roles. The move highlights the company’s efforts to create opportunities for underrepresented groups.
To strengthen last-mile delivery, Flipkart is opening 650 new hubs in cities such as Siliguri, Kundli and Jakhar, along with multiple Tier-2 and Tier-3 locations. These facilities are expected to speed up festive deliveries and expand the company’s reach to newer geographies.
Technology will play a crucial role in execution. AI-based demand forecasting, automated sorting, and predictive inventory planning are being deployed to improve accuracy and efficiency across the supply chain.
Flipkart is also investing in long-term skill development. Through its Supply Chain Operations Academy, thousands have been trained in logistics, with plans to upskill 10,000 more by 2025. Additionally, over 6,000 students pursuing higher education have been exposed to practical supply- chain training through blended learning modules.
With a mix of workforce expansion, inclusivity initiatives, and technology-backed efficiency, Flipkart is positioning itself to handle one of its busiest festive seasons yet.
