The 8th Pay Commission has completed its latest round of stakeholder consultations in Lucknow and will continue the exercise with meetings in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata in July as it gathers feedback for its recommendations on pay, pensions and service conditions.
The Commission is currently in the consultation phase and has not announced any decision on salary revisions, the fitment factor or pension changes. Instead, it is seeking inputs from employee unions, pensioner associations and other stakeholders before finalising its report.
The ongoing discussions are aimed at making the consultation process more inclusive by providing a wider platform for government employees and representative bodies to share their views on pay scales, allowances, pensions and other service-related issues.
To encourage greater participation, the Commission had extended the deadline for submitting memoranda from 31 May to 15 June, giving employee organisations and pensioner groups additional time to present their suggestions.
The consultation exercise is expected to play a key role in shaping the Commission’s final recommendations. During previous pay revisions, the fitment factor was fixed at 1.86 under the Sixth Pay Commission and 2.57 under the Seventh Pay Commission. However, no proposal has been finalised for the Eighth Pay Commission so far.
The recommendations, once submitted and accepted by the government, are expected to impact more than 1.19 crore beneficiaries across the country. This includes nearly 50 lakh Central government employees and around 69 lakh pensioners.
With consultations continuing across multiple cities, employee unions and pensioner associations are expected to raise issues related to salary structures, allowances, retirement benefits and service conditions before the Commission begins drafting its final recommendations.
