Amazon will introduce a new Employee Grocery Discount for all its US employees from 1 October, offering discounts on eligible grocery and everyday essential purchases across Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market.
Under the benefit, employees will receive 10 per cent off eligible groceries purchased on Amazon.com and through Whole Foods Market Online. In-store purchases at Whole Foods Market and Daily Shop will qualify for a 20 per cent discount.
The benefit will be available to employees from their first day of employment, with no minimum purchase requirement or cap on the discount. It will apply to a range of everyday products, including fresh produce, dairy, pantry staples, diapers, baby formula, cleaning products, pet food and toiletries.
The discount will be linked to employees’ Amazon accounts and can be combined with other eligible savings, including Prime member discounts, coupons and Subscribe & Save offers.
The benefit will be available across Amazon’s US workforce, including employees working at fulfilment centres, Whole Foods Market stores and corporate offices.
The move comes alongside Amazon’s broader expansion of benefits for its US workforce. Separately, more than 1,00,000 Whole Foods Market employees are set to gain access to Amazon’s comprehensive benefits as part of an investment of more than $230 million in higher pay and expanded benefits for Whole Foods Market team members.
The grocery benefit is positioned by Amazon as a way of reducing the cost of an everyday household expense for employees. Unlike one-time incentives or performance-linked rewards, the discount provides an ongoing saving on eligible purchases throughout an employee’s tenure.
The benefit will initially apply to Amazon employees in the US, with the company providing different discount rates depending on where and how eligible groceries are purchased.
