Amazon will raise pay for around 70,000 frontline employees across the UK by up to 5.6 per cent, with the revised rates taking effect from 27 September.
Starting pay for frontline operations roles will increase to between £15.10 and £16.10 an hour, depending on location. Annual starting salaries will range from £31,408 to £33,488.
The increase will cover employees working at fulfilment centres and delivery stations. Amazon said its hourly starting pay has risen by 80 pence over the past year and by 44 per cent since 2022.
From 1 October, employees will also receive a 10 per cent discount on eligible online groceries and essentials. Other benefits include private medical insurance, life insurance, income protection, subsidised meals, employee discounts and a company pension plan.
The pay increase comes as Amazon continues to expand its UK operations. The company has committed to investing £40 billion in the country between 2025 and 2027, with more than £15 billion already invested.
Recently, Amazon India created more than 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across its operations network ahead of the upcoming festive season, with opportunities spanning over 400 cities across the country.
The seasonal workforce will support Amazon’s ecommerce and quick-commerce operations, including activities such as picking, packing, shipping and delivery. The opportunities cover both direct and indirect roles across metros as well as tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
The company has also onboarded thousands of women and persons with disabilities as part of its expanded seasonal workforce. A majority of the associates have already joined and are undergoing training ahead of the expected increase in festive demand.
