HCL prioritises employee welfare with landmark initiatives

Hindustan Copper (HCL), a Central public-sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Mines, has rolled out a series of welfare and social security measures aimed at strengthening protection for its employees and contractual workforce. These initiatives combine robust financial safeguards with efforts to build a unified organisational culture.

One of the key measures is the Group Personal Accident (GPA) Insurance Policy, which provides coverage of Rs 20 lakh for every contractual worker while on duty. By extending this benefit to contractual staff, HCL has reinforced its commitment to securing the lives of all categories of its workforce.

HCL has also partnered with State Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, and other financial institutions to introduce a Corporate Salary Package (CSP). This initiative significantly enhances coverage, offering accident insurance up to Rs 40 lakh for contractual personnel across the company’s units and offices. The CSP also provides modern banking facilities designed to support workers and their families.

For its regular employees, HCL has gone a step further with the launch of a Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme in association with SBI. The scheme provides insurance coverage of Rs 1 crore, applicable both on-duty and off-duty, making it one of the most comprehensive welfare measures introduced by the company.

In addition to financial protection, HCL has unveiled a common uniform for all employees across its operations. This first-of-its-kind initiative is designed to strengthen the corporate identity of HCL, project professionalism, and foster a sense of unity, equality, and inclusivity among its workforce. The uniform underlines HCL’s vision of presenting itself as the “Copper Miner of India” — one team dedicated to the service of the nation.

By integrating strong social security measures with symbolic initiatives that build identity and belonging, HCL has taken a holistic approach to employee welfare, reinforcing its position as a company that prioritises both the safety and dignity of its workforce.
