Walmart reportedly summons employees to office for face-to-face layoffs

A Walmart employee in Bengaluru has alleged that the company is summoning workers to the office primarily for in-person termination meetings! The claims, shared in a viral LinkedIn post, paint a picture of growing anxiety among staff, both those affected by layoffs and those who remain.

The employee described the work atmosphere as charged with fear, noting that even employees who are not directly impacted are feeling increasingly insecure. She stated that the current environment is making people anxious about their job security, prompting some to work longer hours to prove their worth.

According to her account, being called into the office is now widely perceived as a precursor to being let go. She argued that surviving employees are left to deal with ongoing stress, suggesting that this fear of being next could have long-term emotional and professional consequences.

Her post quickly gained traction on social media. Many users expressed concern over the company’s approach, criticising the practice of firing in person as harsh and emotionally damaging. Some commenters highlighted the increasing role of automation and artificial intelligence in reducing the need for human labour, while others lamented the declining importance of employee loyalty in corporate settings.

Now the company has shared an official statement on the situation stating, ‘These changes reflect a focus on business priorities and our growth strategy and are not related to H-1B visas.”
