B Mukherjee has been appointed joint president & head HR (mining and minerals business) at Hindalco Industries, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group. Mukherjee confirmed the development in a recent LinkedIn update, noting that he has taken on the new role within the Aditya Birla Group company.

In his new position, Mukherjee will lead the HR function across Hindalco’s mining and minerals division, with a focus on strengthening organisational effectiveness, workforce planning and leadership development across large-scale industrial and mining operations.

His mandate includes driving human capital strategy, workforce capability and talent development, while supporting safety culture and leadership pipelines across mining sites that form the backbone of Hindalco’s aluminium value chain.

Mukherjee brings over a decade of experience within Hindalco and the broader Aditya Birla Group, having held multiple senior HR leadership roles across its metals and manufacturing businesses.

Prior to this elevation, he served as senior vice president and head HR – mining & minerals business (2024–2025), where he led HR strategy for the same division. Before that, he led the human resources function for Hindalco’s Singrauli operations, overseeing workforce strategy for one of the company’s major industrial locations.

He has also worked with Grasim Industries, another Aditya Birla Group company, where he led HR for the CFI business, further strengthening his exposure to large-scale manufacturing environments.

Mukherjee’s professional strengths lie in strategic human-resource planning, employee engagement, leadership development and industrial relations, particularly within complex, large-scale industrial ecosystems.

Over the course of his career, he has worked extensively in environments where labour relations, workforce capability and safety standards are critical to operational success. His experience spans managing HR across multiple plant locations, driving engagement initiatives and aligning workforce strategies with business objectives.

He began his career with Exide Industries, where he held roles from management trainee to assistant manager in HR, building a strong foundation in employee relations and performance management.

Mukherjee holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Development from Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development, with a specialisation in HR and systems. He also holds a Diploma in Training & Development from the Indian Society for Training & Development.

Additionally, he earned an MBA from Dr. Harisingh Gour University and a Bachelor of Science degree from St Xavier’s College Ranchi.

Mukherjee’s appointment reflects Hindalco’s continued focus on strengthening workforce capability and organisational resilience within its mining operations.
