In a groundbreaking move, Mahindra & Mahindra has launched a one-time Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) covering around 23,000 employees, including factory floor workers—marking a first for a large Indian conglomerate. The initiative reflects the company’s commitment to inclusive wealth creation and long-term value sharing with its workforce.
The ESOP rollout will span Mahindra & Mahindra’s key verticals: the automotive and farm sectors, Mahindra Electric Automobile (MEAL), and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility. Employees who have completed at least 12 months on the company’s permanent payroll are eligible for the scheme, which will be issued in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
By including blue-collar shop-floor employees—traditionally excluded from such financial benefits—Mahindra is setting a new precedent in corporate India. The initiative aims to deepen employee engagement, foster a sense of shared purpose, and align daily efforts with long-term company success.
This move comes as Mahindra’s market capitalisation has seen a 12-fold increase since April 2020. The decision to extend ownership to employees is a recognition of their role in this growth journey. The company has set aside a budget of Rs 400–Rs500 crore for the initiative.
The announcement also coincides with strong quarterly results for Mahindra & Mahindra.
As Mahindra continues to expand across sectors, the ESOP indicates it is keen for equitable growth and a people-first approach.
