Smita Mitra has taken on the role of chief-of-staff at Magma General Insurance, adding a new leadership mandate to a career spanning more than two decades across human resources and organisational transformation.
Mitra brings experience in enterprise and HR transformation, organisational effectiveness, culture building, talent strategy and leadership development. Her career has included senior HR leadership roles in the financial services sector, including stints with Poonawalla Fincorp and Bajaj Finance.
In her current role at Magma General Insurance, Mitra is responsible for the chief-of-staff mandate, following her experience leading people and transformation agendas across financial services organisations.
Before joining Magma General Insurance, Mitra held HR-leadership roles at financial services companies including Poonawalla Fincorp and Bajaj Finance. These stints have been a significant part of her career in the financial services sector, where she built experience across people strategy and organisational transformation.
Her areas of expertise include organisation design, culture building, governance, organisational effectiveness, talent strategy and leadership development. She has also worked on large-scale change initiatives designed to strengthen organisational capability and improve business performance.
Mitra’s HR leadership journey has largely been centred on connecting people strategy with broader business priorities, with a particular focus on transformation and organisational change.
An alumna of the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, she holds an MCom in Commerce from Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Her move to Magma General Insurance marks a shift from a primarily HR and organisational transformation-focused leadership track into a chief-of-staff role, where her experience in enterprise transformation, governance and working with senior leadership teams will form the foundation of her new mandate.
